Our Village is a small community, made up of approximately 675 people, located on Chaumont Bay within the Town of Lyme, Jefferson County, & Lyme Central School District. Chaumont has unique scenic, historical, and natural resources and offers many outdoor activities including fishing, boating, and a public beach. It is the mission of the Village Board to serve the needs of the Village of Chaumont with appropriate services and to promote its growth and well-being for its residents. We are committed to preserving these essential qualities that make it a desirable place to live, while seeking to improve the local economy by promoting compatible residential and small business growth. NOTICE
This is a notice to the snowmobilers who have been using the sidewalks in the Village of Chaumont as a snowmobile trail. Snowmobile use is not allowed on any village sidewalk. Village residents are required to keep the sidewalks clear of snow & ice for pedestrian use. When snowmobiles run across these sidewalks, it causes a mess and adds even more difficulty to an already burdensome responsibility. I am going to assume that the few snowmobiles that have been using the sidewalks are new to the area and not aware that snowmobile operators are to use the established snowmobile trail located behind the village, with accesses at Morris Tract Road and CR 179. This trail took hard work to re-establish after the solar project was put in. The dedication from the Thousand Island Snowmobile Association and its members, as well as the Village of Chaumont, has made it so that there is a safe passage around the Village of Chaumont and access to the other side of the river. I ask that everyone get the word out so this information gets to whoever is violating our local law ordinance. Thank you to everyone who is respectful of our village property owners.
